About 3 Minute Games

Founded in 2014 by Colin Liotta as a subsidiary studio of Big Fish Games, 3 Minute Games’ mission was to explore uncharted territory in the mobile gaming space. After numerous innovative game releases in 3MG’s first two years, fans clearly found a hit with Lifeline and seven Lifeline games were produced from 2015-2016.

Re-established in 2021 as an independent company by founders Colin Liotta, Mars Jokela and Dave Justus, 3 Minute Games is picking up where we left off with Lifeline and continuing to innovate across mobile gaming genres. After modernizing our game engine, updating Lifeline for modern devices, and expanding Lifeline’s language selection to include Korean and Spanish, our first new game release in 2022 is Lifeline: Beside You in Time.

Lifeline is the original “texting adventure,” having inspired an entire genre of real-time interactive fiction. Events in the story play out with realistic delays between story snippets - so if Taylor says it might take an hour to hike to the crash site, you can expect the next message (by notification) in about an hour. The story, as long as Taylor doesn’t die along the way, plays out over three in-game days.

The story being told in small bites through notifications makes it a perfect fit for wearable gaming, which is why we launched it with the debut of the Apple Watch. Lifeline was quickly named the best game on the platform by Time Magazine, and has held a place in many best-of lists ever since.

The events of Lifeline transpire on a moon of Tau Ceti IV. Taylor’s ship, the Varia, crash landed under mysterious circumstances. Taylor’s communicator can only reach the player, whose task it is to help Taylor make life-saving decisions under unforgivingly hostile circumstances.

Something that we don’t advertise but is worth discussing here, is that Taylor is never gendered in the game text. Representation in games is important to us, and our way of representing players of all gender identities, sexualities, and races is to let the player imagine these qualities in the person they are communicating with, as they wish to see them. Many players never even consciously notice this, and we feel that is the best way to experience the game.

Lifeline has great accessibility support, and has been warmly received in the visually impaired gaming community.

Lifeline is the first of four games in Taylor’s story (so far). Its sequels are Lifeline: Silent Night (2015), Lifeline: Halfway to Infinity (2016), and Lifeline: Beside You in Time (2022).

Release: June 2022

Platforms: iOS (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch) // Android (supports Android Wear)

Languages: English at launch, translations to follow (expected: French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish)

Price: $3.99

Lifeline: Beside You in Time is the long-awaited fourth entry in the ongoing, pioneering series of “texting adventures” starring hapless astronaut Taylor, whose entire fate depends on decisions made by the player. Trapped in a derelict space station on the other side of a black hole, Taylor must look to you for solutions to one life-or-death scenario after another in the depths of unknown space.

But this time, there’s a twist: Players can also choose to communicate with T2, Taylor’s time-warped, alien-infected “evil twin,” helping or hindering as they see fit. Throughout the story, seemingly simple decisions can have profound effects. The game boasts fantastic replayability, as you explore more of the space station and learn more about the two astronauts along hundreds of diverse story branches.

As with all games in the Lifeline series, the story plays out in real time, with notifications delivering new messages throughout your day. Keep up as they come in, or catch up when you’re free. You can even jump back to earlier points in the tale, and discover what happens when you make a different choice, or chat with a separate character. Complete any single path to restart the story and unlock this mode.

Acclaimed writer Dave Justus (Fables: The Wolf Among Us) returns to pen this newest tale. Lifeline: Beside You in Time is Taylor’s fourth adventure—following the original, multimillion-selling Lifeline, Lifeline: Silent Night, and Lifeline: Halfway to Infinity—and the seventh overall in the Green Series (which also includes Lifeline: Bloodline, Lifeline: Crisis Line, and Lifeline: Flatline). Each game welcomes brand-new players, but certainly rewards the many long-time fans who have kept a candle lit for Taylor over years of radio silence.

All Lifeline games have great accessibility support via screen reader.

The story contains no in-app purchases, and no internet connection is required.
